'Quentin Blake draws Hope for Ukraine' special Bonhams charity auction goes live

Friday 13th May 2022

Quentin is working with Bonhams once again for a special charity sale, Quentin Blake Draws Hope for Ukraine.  Funds raised from the auction will all go towards the charity Hope and Homes for Children, Bonhams is waiving all commission and there will be no buyers premium on the works.  The auction includes forty separate lots, and many of the drawings feature the blue and yellow colours of the Ukrainian flag.  Estimates range from £800 to £5,000.

Hope and Homes for Children was founded 30 years ago with a vision of a world in which children no longer suffer in orphanages, and instead get the chance to grow up in loving and safe families. Having witnessed children left behind in war zones – to fend for themselves in bombed out orphanages, and refugee children separated from families – Hope and Homes for Children refuse to allow history to repeat itself in Ukraine, where for nearly 25 years they been offering practical solutions to keep struggling families together. Hope and Homes for Children are deeply concerned for the 100,000 children who are housed in Ukraine’s 700 orphanages and are uniquely placed, with the public’s support, to bring their expertise to bear in ensuring the most vulnerable children and families are protected now and in the aftermath of the war.

Janet Hardie, Bonhams Head of Sale, commented: “We are delighted to once again be partnering with the wonderful Sir Quentin Blake for a special charity sale. His work has brought joy to millions, and his generosity in donating these works to such a worthy cause is sure to inspire passionate bidding from those who also want to show their support.”

Sir Quentin Blake said: “With a very few exceptions these drawings are all new, and specially produced for this occasion. I hope you will want to have them on your walls, but I also hope your support for the young people of Ukraine will be clear in the energy of your bidding. Thank you.”

Mark Waddington, Chief Executive of Hope and Homes for Children, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to Quentin Blake for his extraordinary generosity and support for our Ukraine Appeal. By bidding on these wonderful pictures, you’ll be protecting children and families both now, and in the aftermath of this war.”

Bidding opens at 12.00 BST on Friday 13 May, until 12.00 BST on Friday 27 May.  Visit www.bonham.com to place your bids to be in with a chance of owning one of these unique and beautiful works, and to support the work of Hope and Homes for Children in Ukraine.
