New QB signage unveiled at North Middlesex Hospital

Wednesday 18th December 2019

Quentin Blake has provided new artwork for signage at North Middlesex Hospital. A troupe of brightly-coloured, friendly aliens help parents and children navigate the corridors to departments such as Ultrasound and X-ray, and also greet staff and visitors to the Children's wards.
The new 'aliens' drawings were specially produced for the hospital by Quentin in his London studio, then digitally enlarged and reproduced for the hospital walls and signs.  They join some existing murals of Quentin's work which had been cleverly copied onto the walls of Rainbow Ward by a local A-level student.  The friezes are based on a selection of Quentin's much-loved drawings from some of his picture books for young children.
This is the most recent project to take Quentin's work into a healthcare setting, following nearly fifteen years of works created for a variety of patients: from older adults' mental health wards, to children and young people's centres, an Eating Disorders unit or an entire maternity hospital.
