'Name Quentin's owl' for The Owls Trust

Friday 3rd April 2020

A a Patron of the Owls Trust -  he adopted his own owl called Woodii – Quentin follows the work of the charity closely. He was delighted when a new arrival came to the sanctuary from Italy before the COVID-19 outbreak: a young Pel’s Fishing Owl, a rare species that hunts in rivers and lakes in Africa, and is the continent's second largest owl.  He has been hand-reared from an egg specially for The Owls Trust to help promote the plight of these owls in their natural habitat.
This is a very special little owl, which came through the long journey in good shape – at 12 weeks old, he is already friendly and inquisitive.
The Owls Trust is running a competition to name the new arrival.  To enter, simply make a donation to help boost much-needed fund for the sanctuary in North Wales, which was badly affected by the winter storms in 2020.  More details are on the Trust's website: https://theowlstrust.org/competition/  Entries close at midnight on 30 June 2020.
The winning entrant will receive an original sketch created by Quentin Blake (pictured) and have the chance to meet the owl they have named in the sanctuary. The winning name will be chosen by Sir Quentin Blake, journalist Melanie McDonagh and the chair of The Owls Trust, Bill Broughton.
